New Play Area Started

Work has started on the installation of the new play area in Ash Grove, Ringwood.

Following extensive consultation with local residents and young people, SMP Playgrounds has been awarded the contract to transform the area into an innovative and adventurous place that offers a challenging and enjoyable play experience for local children of all ages and abilities.

The design includes a fenced play area with equipment and features for children up to the age of 10, and a separate natural play and social area for use by all ages.

The project has been made possible by a grant of £20,000 from The Veolia Environmental Trust through the Landfill Communities Fund, the release of £20,000 from Developers' Contributions and funding from Ringwood Town Council of £20,000.

Town Mayor Brian Terry said:

"I am delighted that work is to begin on this fabulous new play area, and that it will be open in good time for the Easter holidays. This is the culmination of several years work and a good example of the Town Council working in partnership with the local community. This has involved consulting local people, addressing issues raised by residents, sourcing the funding and ensuring that we deliver a play area that will be enjoyed by local children and their families. I look forward to seeing the end result."

Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Margaret Cobbold adds,

"Playgrounds provide children with a great foundation for development, and we are glad we can support this project through the Landfill Communities Fund. When work is complete the new playground will enable children to develop their physical and social skills, while letting their imaginations run wild.
