Weekend sailing on the Solent can't be beat

I have just spent a fabulous weekend sailing on the Solent with friends in the glorious sunshine and feel invigorated!

I am fortunate to know the part owner of Lymington Yachting which is a yacht charter business based in Lymington Yacht Haven. One of his boats was available so a few of us packed our bags and spent two nights on the yacht enjoying being out on the water with winds up to 20 knots and stopping for pit stops in Cowes and the Hamble.

Lymington Yachting has 3 Bavaria Sailing Yachts (Galaxy, Solent Star and Starburst), 2 x 40.7 racing yachts (Lady V and Parallel Blue) and a rib call Baloo that are all available for hire during the summer sailing season. They offer Bareboat Charter and Skippered Charter.

The company is run very well and the boats are all fully maintained and kept in pristine condition so the company is fortunate to get repeat business year on year.  They are hoping to win a few races this year with the purchase of a new 40.7 yacht which is used specifically for racing.

Sailing is something that I have always wanted to do, seeing the yachts gliding through the water from the shore always captured my imagination. The reality of sailing does not disappoint. It is a very technical skill to learn and can take years to fully master such a huge craft, even just getting in and out of the marinas is an art in itself.

I hope one day that I will become a Skipper and have the skill, the knowledge and the confidence required to manage a boat out at sea with a fully trained crew because the camaraderie onboard a yacht is second to none.
