Traffic around Ringwood

The traffic is particularly heavy today

which is predicted to be the hottest day of the year so far. The high street was a

wash with cars heading in both directions and coming out onto the A31 at both

points was down to a stand still causing tailbacks back up the Poulner Hill.

In my humble opinion we appear to be on the

verge of a motorhome/caravan epidemic or have there always been this many travelling

kitchens on our roads? Actually, I admit to have become quite interested in the

makes and models of these new prestigious luxury homes on wheels like the

Hymer, Rapido and the Auto Trial to name but a few, but I’m hoping they don’t clog

up the High Street!

Anyway, the traffic on our roads is busier

than ever and Ringwoods great location sitting on the A31 is probably great for

travelling pit stops but not so great when these travellers try and get back on

the road again.

There have been suggestions from local

residents to make the Ringwood High Street into a ‘pedestrian area’ to allow

people to sit outside, drink and eat and allow locals and tourists to truly

enjoy Ringwood without the noise, fumes and danger created by a main road full

of through traffic to the A31 and delivery vehicles to all the local

businesses.

Ah, think of how much nicer it would be if

there were no vehicles shooting through the High Street, in the day at least,

people strolling up and down safely, eating al fresco that would be bliss.

I would love to see the High Street traffic free, I'm sure it would increase shopper numbers and would create a quieter and nicer shopper experience.
